Hold Fast the Faithful Word: Studies in Titus

“Holding fast the faithful word” is an exhortation we don’t hear much in Christendom anymore. Popular culture has more effect on society’s view of Christianity than the Bible does. But the Word of God is the Christian’s plumb-line, the carpenter’s square, the point of reference to measure and evaluate our lives and our world. Without it, without knowledge of it, without meditating on it we find ourselves in the proverbial “tempest in a teapot,” whereof Paul the Apostle wrote “…tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Our standard is not the news media, Hollywood, or the crafty politician looking to serve as your guide and protector. It is the Word of God. It is incumbent on us, and Christian leaders, to rest on its authority.
